George Fox University's Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program emphasizes a problem-solving, evidence-based approach to learning and integrates clinical research into the practice of physical therapy. Physical therapists provide care for people in a variety of settings, including hospitals, private practices, outpatient clinics, home health agencies, schools, sports and fitness facilities, work settings, and nursing homes. Our fully accredited DPT program was one of the first graduate physical therapy programs in the nation and is ranked in the top 25% of physical therapy programs by U.S. News & World Report. This speciality of physical therapy is most often found in the out-patient clinical setting. Integumentary physical therapy includes the treatment of conditions involving the skin and all its related organs. Physical therapists spend much of their time on their feet, working with patients. The mission is accomplished by preparing doctors of physical therapy who provide compassionate, ethical, and innovative care, using an inquiry-driven team approach that focuses on the needs of individuals, the community, and the profession. Currently, 199 colleges and universities nationwide support 212 accredited professional physical therapist education programs; 96% now offer the DPT and the remaining programs are planning to convert. Continuing education is typically required for physical therapists to keep their license. Physical therapists may apply to and complete a clinical residency program after graduation.
